Signal To Noise

0224-pg1-poll The new poll from the New York Times/CBS News proves that for all the right wing fulminating about the Recovery Act, the public is solidly behind the President. Limbaugh and Hannity may have a megaphone, but it is directed at a very small (18%) minority that almost doesn’t pass the “who cares test”. What is more, the public sees what’s going on with Lindsay Graham and Eric Cantor.

Most Americans said the president was trying to make good on his promise to bridge the partisan divide. About three-quarters, including 6 in 10 Republicans, said Mr. Obama had been trying to work with Republicans. But only 3 in 10 Americans said Republicans were doing the same. On the economic stimulus plan, 63 percent of poll respondents said Republicans opposed the legislation for political reasons, not policy ones. Seventy-nine percent said Republicans should now be working in a bipartisan manner rather than holding fast with their policies.

But 56 percent of those surveyed said Mr. Obama’s priority should be following the policies he proposed during the campaign last year, rather than working with Republicans.

The strange thing about the Washington Echo-chamber is that dickheads like Cantor think they are really winning, when to the public at large, they are total losers.

Before the pounding starts, in a 1993 concert just before performing “When A Soldier Makes It Home”, Arlo Guthrie observes that after all the movements of the 60s, he found there are only two kinds of people: those who give a damm and those who don’t and there were always both of those on both sides of an issue. What surprised him was how over the years he found he had more in common with those who do give a damm regardless of which side of the issue they were on.

As we continue on during the times of change and internationalization, maybe that is the best badge to wear.

Is it just me, or are others amused by the GOP choosing a ‘leader’ named Can’t(or)?

What will be interesting is when heartland news sources gut up and stop pandering to the 18% and start giving them factual information on the cost of listening to Rush/Ann/Bill and their talking point machines.

Since money is the main focus of the nation, imagine what a little cost break down on a the actual out of pocket some dittohead pays for the neo-cons prison system, or Star Wars shield, or Billions and Billions of Payors Health Care System (compared to single payor).

Imagine: “Hey dude, did you know the state prison system spends $286 dollars monthly of your income to lock all those people up?”

In other words, someone else can spend 286 (taxable) dollars of their money on weed, or you can spend $286 of your tax money keeping him off the grass.

The louder the anti-Prohibition calls become, the move feverish the pro-Prohibition responses get. What I can’t help noticing is that the incoherent, irrational, anti-social, anti-evidence, and generally whacked out arguments tend to me made by those who favor hard-line sobriety.

I have to say, it’s a peculiar way to make your case.

Yeah, when both sides are baked, it’s tough to tell the homemade from the store bought brownies.

Hey Ken, remember what happened to the original Cantor (inventor of Cantor Sets)? Staring at the Gorgon’s Head is just another way to get stoned.

    Jon:

“Limbaugh and Hannity may have a megaphone, but it is directed at a very small (18%) minority that almost doesn’t pass the “who cares test”.”

Exactly! That should put further discussion of the Fairness Doctrine to rest.

Without expressing an opinion one way or the other on the Fairness Doctrine, I will say that, just because Jabba the Limbaugh is currently at low ebb, it does not mean that he has not had inordinate influence in the past, nor does it mean he won’t regain that influence in the future.

This is a poll result. Who here, I wonder, has not on several occasions said, “Well you can’t trust polls, they’re skewed”? Or, “just because people say that today, doesn’t mean they won’t say something completely different tomorrow”?

If there’s one thing I’ve come to rely on, it’s tens of millions of Americans listening to the Republicans (with Jabba at the forefront) talk about “tax cuts” and believing that those tax cuts will benefit themselves instead of the megayacht class.
