Obama's Political Movement
I don’t know what it’s like in your town, but the number of Obama bumper stickers seems to a have grown since the election. Certainly no one is taking them off, and I suspect that some of the McCain stickers (which have all disappeared) have been replaced by Obama banners. Certainly the polls reinforce this.
Its surely is a merry Christmas for Barack Obama with Santa raining goodies, this time in the form of an all time high rating of 82% of Americans approving his handling of the transition.
Obama’s approval is higher than George W Bush’s 65 per cent approval rating during his transition eight years ago with Bill Clinton at 67 percent in 1992.
Part of the secret is the use of You-Tube to constantly communicate the message directly to the people. The ability to build a permanent political movement will be the key to his success.

Well, we had our Obama bumper sticker on a couple months before the election & I have yet to see a single one here on another car. DFW.

I agree with you Jon about the YouTube firesides. It’s one smart feed. It really is. Here in the GOP strongholds of Georgia, the general feeling is surprisingly hopeful. The folks here wish the man well. They really do. He’s now the steward of our love for this country, and I’ve yet to meet a cracker who isn’t pulling for him. He’s always struck me as a Harvard slickster — never let those people get behind you — but now that he’s about to take the reins the hope is that he’ll turn his talents toward substance, that he’ll buckle down and do the really difficult homework necessary to untangle really knotty things, such as the Middle East, or political corruption in high places, or our screwed up systems of healthcare and education, or our government’s schitzy approach to economics. My guess is that he’ll be somewhat like FDR, a hale figure who dodges the nitty gritty and skates instead. Barack’s done this since he was a teenager, and there’s really no reason to expect him to change now. On the other hand, any damn day he might choose to dig in, he’ll be able to do so with real aplomb. He’s that good. Jack Kennedy was that way: thoughtful when it mattered. His brother Bobby, even more so, eventually. I don’t care, as some people evidently do this week, whether the President-Elect chooses to romp at the beach and show that he is young and handsome. That’s fine. But I do take heart when I catch photos or footage of the man reading. He has a wonderfully jurisprudential mind, and I hope that his jurisprudence will beget Prudence. Prudence meant everything to Lincoln, and I doubt we’ve ever had a more under-qualified president, nor one who grew so much in office. He did it by force of will, and by applying his astounding intelligence to horrible problems.

Good summary of the hopes of many Hugo.

Of course. And all the Dallas Cowboy bumper stickers will soon be gone while the Philadelphia Eagles stickers remain.

I still see a fair number of Bush/Cheney stickers here in Chicago.
You won’t find one, not one, Philadelphia Eagles sticker though.

An Atlanta columnist, a friend and neighbor of mine, recently observed in print that the McCain bumperstickers for the most part disappeared here rather quickly. Few of them still are in evidence.
