Here is Barack’s 2 minute policy ad. Clear and consise.
He completely and effectively ignored McCain/Bush/Palin. He delivered a positive message. He looked us all in the eye and laid out priorities I can believe in and I hope we all can believe in.
Wasn’t it $250,000?
Where did the extra 50G’s go?
Yes, Armand, it was and where it went noone apparently is supposed to notice. He doesn’t make mistakes like that so do you think he was just tired?
I think you get a tax cut if it’s $200,000. If it’s over $250,000 you get a tax increase. If it’s between 200,000 and 250,000 just keep your head down, keep moving and whistle on by…
I noticed the $50k cut in threshold a couple of
weeks ago – it might have been during the last
debate. I remember doing a double-take and
thinking he must’ve misspoken. Since then, I’ve
heard it a couple of other times, including this
one. It’s not an easily missed change and I think
such things, without a clear explanation as to
why, will lead to more questions of credibility.
I can’t imagine he and his advisers haven’t
thought of this, so why the silence? Don’t get
me wrong, I’m fully behind the man, but this
has been one of the main focal points of his
overall plan to steer the country straight and
making changes to it at this point looks suspect.
His platform is Change and that must include
bringing a new level of honesty and openness
to the Presidency – now and after he’s elected.
Mason Dixon is right – I looked it up on Obama’s site. If you make $200,000 or less a year, you will get a tax cut.
If you make $250,00 or less a year, you will not get a tax increase.
That explains the $200,000 vs. $250,000. So the numbers haven’t changed.
Senator Obama speaking in Ohio, now, just said not taxes for people under $250,000.00. So whatever was wrong has been corrected.
RE: preceding questions on whether Obama changed his tax plan in this video
His tax plan is publically available here. I have not seen it change on this issue. It says, “no family making less than $250,000 will see their taxes increase.”
So, like Mason explained above, if you’re between 200k and 250k, your taxes will the same, if you’re below 200k your taxes go down. My take on this video is that Obama just put a finer point on the tax plan he has been touting for some time now.
whoops. it eated my comment because of the less than signs.
Mason Dixon has it right.
< 200K = tax cut
200K > income > 250K = no change
> 250K = ~2% increase in marginal rate
I suspect these figures don’t matter. The environment in which they are being calculated is going to change and I expect taxation in general in the U.S is going to go up.
Policy from a politician is good, it shows you where their loyalties and values are according to what they would actually do.
But any specific numbers attached can never be relied on because circumstance will likely force their hand.
Odds are whoever is setting the U.S budget is going to be raising taxes, it’s how those writing the budget will spread it U.S citizens will be voting on – it’s unlikely any precise numbers given today will last I would think.
I am an Obama supporter… but that ad didn’t say friggin’ anything at all except the tax cut.
Just a bunch of pleasant generalities.
Whatevs, though. 8 more days… 8 long days.
