Couric has changed the dynamic and her daily news show is getting very sharp. She could surprise everyone. It’s not just that she brought the imaginary Sarah Palin into the spotlight of reality. And it was a shock to the whole country–that sense of the kid trying to fake an answer on the stuff she didn’t read last night. It’s a totally lame performance by the wannabe VP.
Couric’s show tonight was 30 minutes of really fine television. The lead was a new poll showing Obama pulling away fromMcCain leading 49-40. After the politics lead, there was not a lame throwaway piece and there was an astonishing report on a Homeless tent city in Reno that was really eye opening. So now CBS should make Couric available on You Tube and other video sites plus their own with 2-15 second interactive ads per program. And it should be on line internationally live with the first New York feed, which I think is 5:30 PM ET.
Couric may have the last laugh at the Waverly Inn. She should screen George Clooney’s “Goodnight and Good Luck” to show her colleagues how important CBS news was in our ability to survive our nation’s flirtation with Facisim with Joe McCarthy in the 50’s. Katie’s looking far more confident on air.
