Carly Fiorina–Perfect For McCain
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r64OlwJvsho&eurl]
Carly Fiorina has replaced embarrassed UBS bag man Phil Gramm, as the public face of McCain’s Economic team. Not only does she flat out lie in this clip about Obama’s tax plan, her own past history is getting ignored by the MSM.
Fiorina was fired by the HP board, after running the company in a reign of terror. Jeff Sonnenfeld, at the Yale School of Management called her a “street bully.”
“What a blind spot this is in the McCain campaign to have elevated her stature and centrality in this way,” said Mr. Sonnenfeld, the senior associate dean for executive programs at the management school and one of Ms. Fiorina’s sharpest critics. “You couldn’t pick a worse, non-imprisoned C.E.O. to be your standard-bearer.”
What is less well known as Fortune Magazine reported, was that the culture of secrecy and spying at HP which led to the “pretexting scandal”, was initiated under Fiorina to spy not on board members but on rival Dell Computers.
Given that McCain has been one of Bush’s great defenders on domestic spying by the NSA, Carly Fiorina will be a perfect fit for McCain’s inner circle.
But why is Obama doing the typical, old-school thing of “tax those disgusting horrible rich people”? This, again, has turned me off the guy. I’m sick of politicians not understanding that the producers in this country need to be supported, not penalized, for producing more.

Alex, Mainly because Trickle Down economics doesn’t work, and the shift of wealth and burden to the middle and lower class really does have to be corrected before the big bills. To really believe anything other than that is to be blind to how skewed the tax system has become under Bush, and how the anti-tax mantra has actually been a piece of the the neo-con stratagy to totally bankrupt the government in order to force the final dismantling of entitlements and social services.

Opps “before the big bills (e.g. Iraq) come in.”

I heard Barack use that “disgusting horrible rich people line” on cspan the other day. Always a crowd pleaser.
Just curious, what exactly does a hedge fund manager produce? Or how about the CEO of Countrywide, what does he produce? Seems the richest among us these days produce little more than debt.

I been wondering…….. if we lower taxes to zero how much more revenue will the government net? Shouldn’t that be enough to cover the deficit?

Alex,
Obama so far appears to favor no more of a tax increase than restoring the tax brackets that existed in the late nineties. Somehow those tax rates were consistent with massive gains for affluent Americans. In return the Federal government might stop piling up quite so much debt, easing the future burden on our kids.
I’m puzzled that this rather modest, prudent, fiscally responsible position provokes such wails of anguish. If losing the Bush tax cuts radically changes your financial picture, I have news for you: you manage your finances very badly.

When will voters get real about taxes? We must come to terms with the fact that we are living in large part on the foreign dole from OPEC oil and Chinese loans. Our roads, energy grid system, and bridges are crumbling. According to recent studies we are falling behind in things that matter in everyday life such as research, health care and most American can not find Iraq on a map or know how many people serve in the senate. McCain has yet to tell us how he is going to pay off his 100 year war and increase our standard or maintain our standard of living and care for our old and young. Today we borrow from China to buy oil from OPEC. We use cheap dollars to bomb Iraq even as we sell arms to both Saudi Arabia and Israel.

Couple quick comments….As noted by Ken, trickle-down economics don’t work. They never have and never will except in exceptional conditions where rates or into the 70% range or so.
I don’t understand why the media lets comments on this discredited theory pass without challenge.
More importantly, as a centrist democrat who is considering McCain (for many reasons), I am appalled that he is allowing Carly Fiorina to be his public face. Her performance at HP showed her incompetence as a leader and naivete in business. It also exposed many personal flaws (ego etc). Put all this together and she is similar to a female Bush. Ignorant but stubborn. Clueless yet Arrogant.

Finally, we may be waking up- less taxes do NOT increase revenue, period.

“politicians not understanding that the producers in this country need to be supported, not penalized”
That is exactly why the tax burden has to be shifted from the productive middle and working classes to those who have used leverage, political influence and the political connections and power to reap the efforts of others who deserve it a lot more. Remember that while productivity has been growing these last eight years, the wages and salaries of those responsible for the productivity have either stayed flat or gone down. If the CEO class doesn’t feel that it should reward those whose efforts have created our wealth, maybe it has to be done for them.

Beckloo and Alex- I would like you to prove Obama said anything about “those disgusting horrible rich people”. I can’t find any record of this? I think you are both just spreading another stupid rumor

Taplin, I was joking.
