Fox News is Truly Disgusting

In a segment on Fox News Yesterday, while blowhard Michele Malkin is trashing Michelle Obama, Fox supers the word’s “Obama’s Baby Mama” under the video. These people are truly disgusting. To paraphrase Joe Welsh calling out Joe McCarthy, “Mr Murdoch, have you no decency sir?”

    The answer from Murdoch: “No.”

  2. Cameron says:

It’s Fox, what did you expect Jon? Responsible ethical reporting??

  3. zak says:

The blog Shakesville is doing an ongoing Obama Racism/Muslim/Unpatriotic/Scary Black Dude Watch, they’re up to item 54, which is a twofer including the Fox item above

While necessary to point out these items, why aren’t more people vocally objecting to them?

  4. zak says:

    control – F for “baby”

not that fox is that sophisticated

  5. Steve says:

Actually, Murdoch is supporting Obama. Are you equally disgusted by the idiotic and juvenile diatribes from Keith Olberman? Michelle Malkin has far more class than that fool.

  6. Patrick Freeman says:

Sorry, Steve. But the answer is still “No.”

  7. steve says:

where’s the confusion? Murdoch may not explicity have endorsed Obama, but he speaks very favorably of him and he is not fond of McCain…

I don’t think Murdoch is responsible for the “baby mama” caption. Whoever is responsible should be disciplined.

But still, Olberman’s partisan rants are equally disgusting. He’s the king of all blowhards.

  8. Jon Taplin says:

Steve- If Murdoch is supporting Obama, Roger Ailes, head of Fox News has not gotten the word. They still throw red meat to the racisit every chance they get.

Olberman is a great balance to the years of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity onsense we have been forced to endure. If you think Malkin is a class act, the next few years are going to be pretty painful for you.

  9. steve says:

I do think Malkin is a class act. Can you provide an example of her classlessness? Also, please provide an example of Fox News being racist. The “baby mama” thing is not that big a deal. Michelle Obama herself has referred to her husband as her “baby’s daddy” in campaign speeches. I agree it’s juvenile and Fox shouldn’t have done it, but I don’t think it’s racist. Someone was trying to be hip and cool.

I may wind up voting for Obama. I’m not a McCain fan by any means. The only pain I anticipate in the next few years is an increase in taxes. I’ll survive.

  10. John Hurt says:

I found Olberman’s rage about Hillary Clinton’s gaffe about Robert Kennedy embarrassing to watch. I was embarrassed for him, all righteous and everything. I don’t watch that much television, so I haven’t seen much of him, but I didn’t like that one damn bit. Self righteousness is terrible from any direction.

We live under an avalanche of self assertion. All of it’s practitioners walk a line which seems to have been erased.

There is a wealth of Ms. Malkin’s showing her dark side, as it were, if one were to perform a search for it. I did so, but it just didn’t seem worth even the few seconds I gave it.

On the other hand, has she made any positive contribution to the world?

    The Right-Wing Terror-Sphere

Fox commentator and popular right-wing blogger Michelle Malkin “has crossed a line.” The “line” journalist Don Surber refers to is Malkin’s having pulled the names and contact information of three UC Santa Cruz students from a press release and published them on her blog, while calling the protesters “unhinged” and bleating that “[t]his used to be called sedition.”

Surber’s comments are notable because he’s an avowed conservative editorial writer for the Charleston Daily Mail.

“She knows better,” Surber continues, referring to the fact that Malkin is a syndicated columnist and pens the second-most-linked-to right-wing blog in the nation. “Only a mean person would be so crass as to put that information in mass circulation.”

This latest Malkin-related controversy began last week, when UC Santa Cruz’s Student’s Against War organized a peaceful protest against the presence of military recruiters at the campus’ annual career fair. Blogger Ezra Klein explains with a flourish:

Right now, the dark-haired, lashy Ann Coulter understudy is happily wrapped in one of her typical controversies: A crew of students at UC Santa Cruz, my alma mater, protested some military recruiters, and Malkin got hold of a press release with their personal contact information — a poorly conceived inclusion on the students’ part, but then these are undergraduates, not trained media flacks. Rather than calling and speaking to them herself, which is what members of the press are supposed to use such releases for, Malkin published their personal information on her website, prompting her hordes of orcish mouth-breathers to brandish their pitchforks and inundate the unsuspecting students with death threats (some of which you can read here). When the students frantically called on Malkin to remove their numbers, she posted their contact information again.

Yes. That is why they all get entries in my Dictionary:

    Coming soon: Michele Malkin.

  13. Steve says:

I must admit one reason I kind of like Malkin is because I think she is quite attractive, although the picture John linked to is not very flattering.

Thanks for the example, JR. I’ve read about that and I do believe you’re right. She defends herself by saying that she only linked to a press release that was already posted on the web. It’s not clear to me that she violated any journalistic standards here, but I’ll concede she should have handled that situation differently. That’s one example of a lack of class on her part from two years ago. Anyone have any more?

While I think Malkin is very extreme in her views and I often don’t agree with her, I do agree with the main point of her book “Unhinged”. The vitriol from the left is much more profane and classless than that from the right. chunque’s web site being one example of that.

That’s one reason I’ve enjoyed reading this blog recently. While most commenters are clearly on the liberal side, the discussion is mostly respectful. Very different from sites like Huffington or daily kos.

  14. Dan says:

CNN is junk, MSNBC makes me gag, but Fox News makes both of them look good.

Which is *really* hard to do.

The old canard about “I only linked to something I saw somewhere else” reminds me of Rush Limbaugh, that paragon of personal attractiveness, chortling over how ugly a teenage Chelsea Clinton was, and then he and his fans insisted for years afterward that he was just quoting what somebody else said about her.

The phrase “Obama’s Baby Mama” can be defended as strictly factual, just like the guy who kept shouting “BARACK HUSSAIN OBAMA” can defend it as Barack’s full name, but it is obviously yet another thinly-veiled attempt to imply something ugly. In fact, those two examples represent the bizarre hybrid image that some on the right continue to try to project: on the one hand, a loose-livin’, woman-chasin’, ain’t-worked-a-day-in-his-life racist-epithet, and a fervent, dedicated, zealous Islamofascist who works tirelessly to destroy America while spinning idle fantasies for gullible liberals.

If the vitriol from the left is much more profane and classless than that, then it must be really bad. Are they implying that McCain is a wife-beater? An alcoholic? A child-abuser? A drug addict? Is the left claiming that, in spite of his war record and his honorable discharge, he was in fact a coward and a liar, and are they then touting Barack Obama’s brief stint in the Boy Scouts as proof of his devotion to the service of his country, when in fact his time in the Boy Scouts was actually spent helping his father become the imam of his local terrorist club?

    What did I miss?

Cause what I’ve heard is that McCain is old (which seems like a legitimate concern), that he continues to support the Iraq War and continues to make statements that fly in the face of evidence that most Americans want us out, that he has connections with too many lobbyists to tally with his claims to be a maverick and a reformer, and that he continues to talk about how we have to keep taxes low, low, low in a time of war and massive deficits.

  15. John Hurt says:

“The vitriol from the left is much more profane and classless than that from the right. ”

I’m not sure you are exactly right about that, Steve.
That is pretty hard to quantify or qualify. Vitriol is not that great a thing no matter which direction it comes from.

  16. Dan says:

I forgot something earlier. Fox News and some others want to create a bizarre hybrid image of Obama that is part (racial epithet), part terrorist…and part elitist. There are actually three components to this hybrid rather than two, and they couldn’t be much more contradictory and nonsensical.
