Clinton Myths

Vandehei and Allen bring us back to first principles.

One big fact has largely been lost in the recent coverage of the Democratic presidential race: Hillary Rodham Clinton has virtually no chance of winning.

Her own campaign acknowledges there is no way that she will finish ahead in pledged delegates. That means the only way she wins is if Democratic superdelegates are ready to risk a backlash of historic proportions from the party’s most reliable constituency.

Perhaps Bill Richardson’s endorsement is the beginning of a reality check for the Clintons. The MSM is slowly waking up.

Obviously I am back from the mountains.

Welcome back Jon. I haven’t posted yet, but I’m a huge fan. Good point about Hilary. What is MSM? Do you ever speak anywhere? Have you thought about starting a “meet-up” type of thing?

Responding to your posts is so much better than doing my work.

I suspect Obama will see an unexpected upside from the Rev. Wright situation. One of Clinton’s main arguments for staying in the race is that there might be something hidden in Obama’s past that would make him vulnerable to being swiftboated and give Democrats buyer’s remorse. (Sad how swiftboated is a word now.)

Well, there was. It was those clips of Rev. Wright. While those clips damaged him and will play a role in the general election, Obama showed he’s no John Kerry. He knows how to handle a potentially fatal controversy: address it immediately, take quick action and tackle it head on.

He did the same with his relationship with Tony Rezko once it looked like it was becoming an issue; he sat down with the Chicago Tribune and answered questions for three hours.

Clinton’s justifications for staying in the race are fear and doubt. Without that, all she has is the reality of being behind 150 pledged delegates with no way to catch up. Something that’s now easier for superdelegates to see and the press to point out.

“I just give the American people more credit than I give [the American people who watch] Fox News.”

Ah, heck. I just can’t win fer losin’ with you Proggies. Dangit, here I go dancin’ the Contrarian again. I do agree with flapjack that the Rezko thing was deft and bold. That is the way it’s done, all right—although it’s worth acknowledging that the Trib amounts to home-court advantage, so in that sense Barack was submitting to the coach’s discipline.

But the Jeremiad is only a piece in the story that both Billary and McCain will play out in the coming months. And the press missed that story, as they’ve missed damn near everything, often diametrically so, throughout. The story isn’t Dr. Wright’s opinions; it’s Trinity’s ideology: that Marxism which is Black Liberation Theology. Wright’s at the center of it, nationally, and Barack comes out of the Marxist tradition. That’s gonna spill, and unfortunately it’s gonna be ugly, because, as he showed in that exceedingly evasive, equivocal and manipulative speech on Tuesday, he may be bold but he’s not THAT bold.

Billary is going to jam him, and already is doing so. That’s why Clintons made a show of pushing for a do-over in Michigan; Billary doesn’t want one, as the exclusion of Michigan loads the argument for a brokered convention, their only shot at this point. They’ll be the last to get the memo, Jon. They really will be. They’ll go down like Godzilla and Megalon, taking Tokyo with them. Hayden has a beloved coffee mug a friend sent him from O’Hare. Its maker threw it on a potter’s wheel, then scrunched it down, accordion-like, before firing it. On the side of the mug, a tourist sentiment: “I Got Smashed in Chicago”.

I don’t think anyone will be joking about this Summer’s convention, forty years from now. Hillary Rodham Clinton, as best I can tell, has not exhibited a moment’s grace in her life, and she’s not about to start now.

Hugh- I just got home from the Wilderness full of the possibilities of my Bear Flag Republic and now you bring me down with this? :) The truth about Billary is painful.

Sorry, man. I really am. I hate the ugly stuff, and get no hit off of dishing it. For a lot of years discretion was my stock in trade; and now that I can say whatever I want to say, it’s just better to leave a lot of it unsaid. Barack surely knows shit that would make Tommy Trojan tear up, but not about race; about races.

Bear Flag Republic, eh? Tell us more, do. Have you run that one by the folks up in the State of Jefferson, home of the Spotted Owl?

Hillary lied about Bosnia … and there’s video to prove it. Check it out here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=iOsGo_HWP-c and here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=IxVsdS887HA
