Jack Nicholson's Hillary Ad
Anyone who has ever tried to license a movie clip from a Hollywood studio, knows that they charge an arm and a leg just for a few seconds of film. Then how is it that Warner Bros and Sony appear to have given Rob Reiner free access to their film library’s to construct the Jack Nicholson-Hillary Clinton ad? Would someone from the studios please tell me if they charged market rates for the clips?

Are you sure it’s not a fan video? It’s not very well done, and it starts off with a pale-faced super villain who’s always pretending to smile. Not the most powerful argument that could be made for Hillary Clinton.
The Video was made by Rob Reiner, an established Hollywood Director. He wouldn’t screw around with the Hollywood studio’s copyrights unless they gave him the OK.
The ad is really funny, but not very flattering to Hillary. Jack plays a deranged gangster who yells money money money , a super-hawk military officer who orders his own men beaten and killed, and he is a noted womanizer. Is that the message Hillary wants to send? What the hell is she thinking? The old folks vote? Her entire campaign staff is the cause of her losing, as well as her desperate, try anything lack of judgment.
While I am not a lawyer, it looks like a “fair use” under Copyright Law which would allow the free use of these clips without the studios’ permissions. The studios don’t have an infringement case; the uses in the spot are transformative and non-profit, don’t cause economic harm, don’t use a substantial amount of the underlining work and does not effect the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.
